Discuss Concerns that Affect Your Relationships and Home Life
Anxiety and depression counselling gives you room to explain how you have been feeling, even if you cannot quite put it into words. You may be getting through work and responsibilities while feeling worried, drained, or disconnected. We take time to understand those experiences and help you find ways to manage the difficulties they bring.
Connected Through and Expectations
A decision that once felt simple may lead to hours of worry. You might replay conversations, expect something to go wrong, or avoid situations that make you uneasy. Even during quiet moments, switching off can feel difficult.
Anxiety counselling focuses on what happens during these moments and how it affects your choices. We explore the concerns behind the worry and work on responses you can practise in daily situations.

You do not need to experience everything on this list to discuss anxiety with us. Your own experience guides the conversation.
Connected Through and Expectations
Getting started in the morning, replying to a message, or finishing a routine task may take more effort than before. Activities you once enjoyed might hold less interest. You may also judge yourself harshly for struggling with things that seem easy for others.
Depression counselling allows you to discuss these changes without pressure to put on a positive face. We listen to how your mood affects your life and consider steps that feel manageable given your current energy and circumstances.

We help you identify which changes are troubling you most and where you would like support.
Connected Through and Expectations
You may feel anxious about falling behind while having little energy to catch up. Avoiding a task can bring brief relief, followed by more worry or self-criticism. These experiences can overlap rather than stay neatly separated.
We consider how your thoughts, feelings, habits, and circumstances influence one another. You can discuss both anxiety and depression in your sessions, along with pressures that may be adding to them. For communication, trust, or conflict concerns you want to address with your partner, explore our couples and marital counselling service.
Lumina Counselling Services uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as part of a holistic approach. CBT explores the links between what you think, how you feel, and what you do. The wider discussion also considers your experiences, relationships, responsibilities, and cultural background.
For example, a difficult moment may lead you to think you always get things wrong. We can examine that thought, discuss its effect, and consider a more balanced response. The aim is to build skills that fit the situations you face.

More About Your Therapist
Ashif Kassam holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. His clinical experience in psychology and psychiatry began in 1996, and he has worked in private practice since 2009.
He takes time to understand what has brought you to counselling and explain the approach. You can ask questions, share concerns about a technique, and discuss what feels useful. Your feedback helps guide the work.
Your first appointment provides time to talk about how you have been feeling and what has become difficult. We discuss what you would like help with before choosing goals together. These goals can change as you learn more about your concerns.

Connected Through Expectations
Progress might mean recognizing a thought sooner, handling a task differently, or feeling more able to discuss what you need. Changes vary from person to person, and some strategies take time and practice.
We review your experiences between appointments and adjust the work where needed. You can be honest about a difficult week or a strategy that did not help. That information helps us understand what support suits you.
We welcome clients from St. Albert, AB, Edmonton, and surrounding communities. Appointments are available seven days a week, including evenings and weekends, by appointment only.
